New Garage Door Installation in New Jersey

We install new residential garage doors across New Jersey.

The work starts with measuring your opening and confirming what the door needs to fit and work properly. Installation involves heavy sections and spring tension, so it is technician work.

What a new door installation is

A new installation replaces your existing garage door, or fits a door in a new opening, with a complete system: sections, hinges, rollers, tracks, springs, cables and the hardware that holds them. Where an opener is installed, it is set up and tested with the new door.

DASMA says installing a garage door can be very dangerous and is not recommended for a novice. Springs and bottom brackets are under high tension, so a trained technician should do the work.

Signs it is time for a new door

  • Several panels are damaged, or the door is warped, rusted or rotting.
  • The door needs repeated repairs, or parts are no longer available.
  • Panels cannot be matched or replaced individually.
  • The door is hard to balance, hangs crooked or binds even after service.
  • You want a different style, material, window layout or insulation level.
  • The house is being renovated and the garage door no longer suits it.

Our guide on repairing or replacing the whole door walks through the decision, and how long a garage door lasts covers wear.

What we do on an installation

The technician confirms measurements and the condition of the opening before the door is set. Our process follows the manufacturer instructions for the door you choose.

  1. We measure the opening, including width, height, headroom and side room, and check the framing and floor.
  2. We confirm the door size and type, and the track and spring setup that suits it.
  3. We remove the old door, springs, tracks and hardware if one is in place.
  4. We assemble and set the new sections, hinges, rollers and tracks, and fit the springs and cables.
  5. We balance the door so it stays put when stopped partway open.
  6. We install or reconnect the opener where one is used, and set the travel and force.
  7. We test the safety reverse and the sensors, then show you how the door, release and wall control work.

Choices that shape the door

You choose the door, and we install what you select. Material, insulation, windows, style and finish all change how the door looks and performs. Our guides cover them in detail:

Measuring matters. Read how to measure for a new garage door before you shop, and what happens during installation for the sequence on the day.

What affects the scope of the work

  • Door size, material, weight and any windows or insulation.
  • Whether an old door must be removed and the condition of the opening.
  • Spring and track type needed for the door and the available headroom.
  • Whether the opener works with the new door or also needs replacing.
  • Framing, jamb or floor repairs found at the opening.
  • Any local permit or association approval your property needs.

Safety: do not install a door yourself

Heavy sections, springs and brackets

New doors arrive as heavy sections, and the springs and bottom brackets hold dangerous tension. DASMA recommends that a trained technician install both the door and the opener, and that only trained technicians adjust springs and bottom brackets. Do not stand under a partly assembled door, and keep children and pets out of the work area. Check your door and opener manuals for model-specific safety information.

Replace the door or repair it

If the door is sound apart from one damaged section, panel replacement may be enough. If the issue is the opener, see opener installation. For worn springs or cables, see spring replacement and cable repair. The technician tells you at the inspection which route fits your door.

Questions and answers

Do you install the opener with the new door?

We install and test openers as part of our work. Whether your existing opener can stay or needs replacing is confirmed at the inspection. See opener installation.

Do I need to measure the opening myself?

No, our technician measures and confirms. If you are comparing doors first, our guide on how to measure for a new garage door helps you plan.

Can I install a garage door myself?

We advise against it. DASMA says installation can be very dangerous and is not recommended for a novice, because springs and bottom brackets hold high tension.

Will I need a permit or association approval?

It depends on your town and any association rules. See HOA rules and permits for garage doors in NJ and check with your municipality.

What should I do with the old door?

Our technician removes the old door and its hardware as part of the installation where that is needed. Tell us at the inspection if anything should be kept.
