Our technicians inspect the track, mounting and door, confirm why the track bent or shifted, and then repair or replace it.
What track repair is
The tracks guide the rollers as the door moves between open and closed. Vertical tracks run along the sides of the opening, and horizontal tracks run along the ceiling. DASMA says the track and sections work together as a system, and that you should use the track designed for your specific door.
Track repair means correcting a bent, loose, dented or misaligned track, tightening or replacing its mounting, and replacing a track that cannot be straightened. Realignment means resetting the track so the rollers run freely and the door closes square.
Signs your tracks need repair
- The door binds, sticks or jerks as it moves.
- You can see a dent, bend or gap in a track.
- A track is loose on the wall or ceiling, or its brackets are pulled away.
- The door rubs, scrapes or is noisy on one side.
- Rollers pop out of the track, or the door has come partly off.
- The door does not close square against the floor.
The CPSC says hardware and fittings should be checked to keep the door on its track at all times, and that doors that bind or stick should be serviced by a professional. See our guide on bent or misaligned tracks.
What we do on a track repair visit
The technician inspects and confirms the cause first. A track can bend from an impact, but it can also shift because the mounting loosened, or because of a failed cable or spring.
- We inspect both tracks, the track brackets and mounting, the rollers, hinges, cables, springs and panels.
- We confirm what bent or moved the track, and whether the door is out of balance.
- We explain the repair, and whether the track should be straightened or replaced.
- We make the repair, tighten or replace mounting hardware, and realign the track so the rollers run clear.
- We replace worn rollers or damaged hinges where the inspection shows them.
- We check balance and travel, then run full cycles with the opener and test the sensors and safety reverse.
What affects the scope of the repair
- How bent or damaged the track is, and whether it can be straightened or must be replaced.
- Whether the mounting, wall or ceiling attachment is loose.
- Whether a vehicle impact or a failed cable or spring caused the damage.
- Whether the door, rollers or panels were damaged.
- Whether the replacement track has to match your door. DASMA says an old track may not fit a new door.
Safety: do not force a binding door
A bent track is not a do-it-yourself fix
Tracks are part of a door that carries spring tension. DASMA states spring systems should be repaired only by trained professionals, and the brackets and cables should be handled only by a trained technician. Do not hammer a track back into shape while the door is in place, and do not loosen track or bracket hardware. If the door binds, sticks or is off its track, do not run it with the opener and do not force it. Keep people and vehicles clear, and bring in a technician.
From the floor, you can look for dents, bends and gaps between roller and track without touching the door. Read door off its track: what to do and not to do and when a garage door is unsafe to use.
Track repair, off-track repair or replacement
If a roller has left the track or the door has come off, that is off-track door repair. If the rollers are worn, see roller replacement. If the track and door are both damaged beyond repair, we say so at the inspection. See garage door repair and new garage door installation.

A technician inspects the door first and explains what it needs.
Questions and answers
Can a bent garage door track be straightened?
Sometimes. The technician checks how bad the bend is and whether the track is still sound. A badly damaged track is replaced. See bent or misaligned tracks.
Should I lubricate the tracks?
No. Clopay advises against adding lubricant to the tracks themselves, since it makes the rollers harder to move. Wiping them clean is fine. Check your door maker's instructions.
Why is my door binding in the track?
A bent or loose track, worn rollers or an unbalanced door can all cause it. The technician confirms which at the inspection. Do not keep running a binding door.
Can I fix a misaligned track myself?
We advise against it. Track mounting sits close to cables, brackets and springs that hold tension, and the CPSC says doors that bind or stick should be serviced by a professional.
Do you repair tracks across New Jersey?
